The NHL season begins on Tuesday October 12. The deadline to get your roster in order will be Sunday night, October 10, at 7:30 PM EST, exactly 48 hours before the first puck drops.
This involves:
Make sure your 2018 draftees are off of your prospect team and either on your main roster or released.
No players can be on the IR during this time until the season begins, other than players we know will be out for a while (ex:Malkin, Eichel, Rask). Players who are listed as IR but are injured short term must be under your salary cap at the beginning of the season. On Monday, once the commissioner double check that all teams are legal, IR will be reopened so you could get your roster in order for the first games of the season.
Your team must be cap compliant by this time.
You must use your amnesty buyout for 2021 by this time.
Regarding players with a salary over 2.5mil:
The league rule is that anyone with a salary of 2.5mil and under can be brought up and down from your main roster to your minor league without having to clear waivers. Anyone over 2.5mil must clear waivers.
At the beginning of the season, everyone you want to send down to your minor league team over 2.5mil must clear waivers again, even if they had already cleared waivers last season and were legally on your minor league team.
You can send players to waivers NOW (remember to post in your waiver area). Generally the waiver length is 48 hours before players clear waivers, but before the season, players are on waivers until the roster deadline of Sunday night. Meaning if today (Tuesday) you send someone to waivers, and someone puts a claim in on them Saturday, that is legal and that team will get the player. Players put on waivers after Friday night at 7:30 PM EST will still have to wait the 48 hours (you can't put someone on waivers Sunday at 6PM so that they go right to your minor league team after 1.5 hours!).
Have a great season!!!
