The 2019-20 season begins on Wed. October 2. We will begin getting our rosters in order one week earlier, Wed. September 25 at 12am EST (Wed morning). This includes:
1. If you still have 2017 drafted players on your prospect team, move them to your minor league team by Sept. 25. Make sure you do not go over the 60 man roster limit.
2. If you want to release a player with a contract that expired this offseason and his extension kicks in next season, this must be done by Sept. 25. With regards to the NHL's current RFA mess, more on this below.
3. Waivers is open on Sept. 25. You can send players through waivers only from this date and on. If they are not claimed within 48 hours, they go to your minor league team. Players with a salary of over 2.5mil must clear waivers in order to be sent down to the minors.
The waiver order has been updated.
Please note that if you have a player prior to Sept. 25 with a salary over 2.5mil, HE MUST CLEAR WAIVERS AGAIN. It doesn't matter if the player cleared waivers last season or during the offseason, he will need to clear waivers again on Sept. 25.
4. Teams must be cap compliant by Saturday September 28 12am EST. Players cannot be on the IR for this purpose (we discussed this at length last offseason and this was the general consensus). They must remain off the IR until the following Monday morning. If you are not cap compliant, the commissioner have the right to send players to waivers from your team.
5. Monday September 30 12am EST: From this date, players can be moved to the IR.
6. Wednesday October 2: NHL Season begins!
Players who still haven't signed their NHL contracts: Once they sign their contract, they can be sent to your minor league team for one week while you decide what to do with them (clearing up cap space, outright releasing them). After the week, you can no longer release them (without a buyout) and they will automatically be sent to waivers. This gives teams enough time to adjust to any surprises that come out of the NHL's RFA madness.
