Hey A few years ago it was decided that IR would not be allowed immediately before the season, to ensure that our full rosters are fully cap compliant. Once everyone has gotten under the cap, then IR is reopened. It was also decided that players out for a very long time do not apply to this rule, and can be placed on the IR even before the season. The poll is asking how long is "very long". Or do you want to get rid of this rule outright, and players who are injured before the season should be allowed to be on IR even before teams are cap compliant.

There isn't a way to track if a player will be out for any length of time, what if a player is listed day to day and is out for 30 or 60 or 120 days? I think it should be all or nothing, no professional team is ever honest with their injuries.
I'm OK with no IR until day 2 for every player or IR goes into effect immediately.
I just don't think it's possible to know for certain either way.

Whether its day-to-day or week-to-week your team will eventually have to address the cap problem, so to me it doesn't really matter. The happy medium we had agreed upon in the past was as long as the player wasn't day-to-day and there was an article from a legit source backing it up that the player was going to be injured for some time, you could put the player on IR and not have them count against the cap on opening night.
I can't remember which team threw a fit over this issue in the past (they actually threw fits at everything), but he hasn't been in this league for awhile now.

I remember! But I'll keep it to myself... Been much nicer here without all the complaining! I also never liked the rule. As Canucks mentioned, one way or another the team with a player on IR will need to be cap compliant when that player comes off of IR. I never saw the point to the rule but we had agreed on it a few years ago. I believe I had Noah Hanifin on IR and he was going to be out for the first month of the season and someone threw a fit. It's already 6-0 in favor of doing away with the rule so this one is over. Players can be on IR at any point.
